The Premium Card Guide to Hotel Credits

"Can I use my Amex Platinum credit for this stay?"

It is the question I hear most. Smart travelers do not just want a booking, they want their existing card benefits built in so every stay delivers maximum value. But hotel credits come with shifting rules, semi-annual deadlines and portal-specific requirements.

This guide boils the most popular premium card hotel credits down to a quick reference. Bookmark it, and use the table below to jump to the card you hold.

Quick note: Card links in this post go to my card offers page, and applying through a referral link may earn me a small number of points. Card benefits change often, so confirm current terms with the issuer. Details current as of September 2026.

These cards have many other benefits. This guide covers the main hotel credit on each.

1. American Express Platinum: $600 Hotel Credit

A powerhouse for luxury travel. The Amex Platinum credit covers prepaid stays at Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection, with elite-level perks on top.

The credit: $600 a year, split as $300 from January to June and $300 from July to December.
Where it works: Fine Hotels + Resorts (FHR) or The Hotel Collection, prepaid stays only (two nights minimum at The Hotel Collection).
How to book: AmexTravel.com. The statement credit posts after booking.
Good to know: An unused half-year credit does not carry over, so plan one booking in each half.

Every FHR stay includes:

  • Daily breakfast for two
  • $100 experience credit
  • Guaranteed 4 PM late checkout
  • Noon check-in, when available
  • Room upgrade, when available
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi

Also on the card: The Hotel Collection. Stays of two nights or more include a $100 credit to spend at the hotel and a room upgrade when available, a good option outside the FHR collection.

The insider edge: Stack the benefits. One FHR booking uses the credit and adds breakfast, a $100 experience credit and guaranteed late checkout, so a $300 credit delivers far more in total value.

2. Chase Sapphire Reserve: $500 Hotel Credit

An annual credit toward prepaid stays at The Edit, Chase's hand-picked collection of luxury hotels, with elevated perks on every booking. See the Chase Sapphire Reserve offer.

The credit: $500 a year, as two $250 credits. One per booking, use any time in the year.
Where it works: Hotels in The Edit, prepaid stays of two nights or more.
How to book: Chase Travel. The statement credit posts automatically.
Good to know: Bookings paid entirely with points do not qualify.

Every Edit stay includes:

  • Daily breakfast for two
  • $100 property credit
  • Room upgrade, when available
  • Early check-in and late checkout, when available
  • Welcome amenity
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi

2026 bonus, ends December 31: An extra $250 hotel credit on the Chase Sapphire Reserve for prepaid Chase Travel stays of two nights or more at IHG, Montage, Pendry, Omni, Virgin Hotels, Minor Hotels and Pan Pacific.

The insider edge: Look for a hotel that is in The Edit and also part of a bonus brand. One well chosen stay can use both credits, and still earn hotel points and elite night credit.

3. Citi Strata Elite: $300 Hotel Benefit

The simplest hotel credit to use. The Citi Strata Elite benefit works at almost any hotel on Citi Travel, with no special collection to search and no statement credit to wait for.

The credit: Up to $300 a year, taken off the price when you book.
Where it works: Any hotel on Citi Travel, prepaid stays of two nights or more.
How to book: cititravel.com or the Citi Travel service center.
Good to know: Any unused amount carries to your next booking in the same calendar year.

Why it is easy to use:

  • No special hotel collection
  • Discount shows at checkout
  • Can be split across stays
  • Pay with the card, points or both
  • Resets every January 1
  • Authorized users can book too

Timing matters: The benefit counts toward the year you book, not the year you stay. Booking in December for a stay the following year uses that year's credit, and a fresh $300 arrives on January 1.

The insider edge: Use it on a two night stay at a hotel that is not part of a luxury program, where the other card credits cannot reach. It turns a good hotel into a noticeably better value.

4. Hilton Honors Aspire: $400 Resort Credit

The must-have card for Hilton loyalists. The Hilton Aspire makes stays at Hilton's most aspirational resorts more rewarding, and covers far more than the nightly rate.

The credit: $400 a year, as $200 from January to June and $200 from July to December.
Where it works: Participating Hilton Resorts on Hilton's official resort credit list.
How to book: Directly with Hilton, then charge the stay to the card at the resort.
Good to know: Prepaid and advance purchase rates do not qualify. Book a flexible rate.

What the credit covers:

  • Room rate on flexible bookings
  • Dining and room service
  • Spa treatments
  • Activities charged to the room
  • Room upgrades paid at the resort
  • No enrollment needed

Included with the card: Hilton Honors Diamond status, Hilton's top tier, with space-available upgrades, a daily food and beverage credit or breakfast, executive lounge access where available and bonus points on every stay.

The Annual Free Night Reward

One of the biggest benefits of the Hilton Aspire is the free night reward, and it can be worth far more than the annual fee on its own.

How you earn it: One free night reward when you open the card, and another every year after renewal.
No points cap: It is not limited to a set point level, so it can cover a night at a top resort that would otherwise cost 90,000 points or more.
No blackout dates: Valid any night of the week, weekends included.
Where it works: Almost any Hilton property worldwide, including the brand's luxury resorts.
Good to know: It books a standard room, subject to availability, and expires 12 months after it is issued.

Bonus nights for big spenders: Spend $30,000 on the card in a calendar year for a second free night reward, and $60,000 for a third.

The insider edge: Charge everything on property to the room and pay with the Hilton Aspire at checkout. Dining, spa and activities all count, so the credit is easy to use in full.

Also on the Radar

Three more cards carry hotel benefits worth knowing about. See the table above for the key details on each:

  • Capital One Venture X: $300 a year through Capital One Travel, flexible across flights, hotels and cars.
  • United Club Card: $200 a year for Renowned Hotels via Chase Travel, a good fit for a five star hotel break.
  • Amex Gold: $100 per stay, spent at the hotel, for upscale stays of two nights or more booked through Amex Travel.
